“From Falmouth in Casco Bay, we hear as follows, That on the 9th Instant, a horrid Murder was committed there, on the Body of Benj. Trott, a Body of about 9 years of age, who being left by the People of the House in Bed, and only an Indian Woman named Patience in the House beside, she took the Child (upon some disgust she had taken) and threw him down a Well, where he miserably perished. This done, she left him and went away to a House about two Miles off and there frankly confess’d the Fact. The Jury of Inquest (one of whom gives us this account) sat on the Body and brough to their Verdict, Wilful Murder. This wretched Creature was once try’d for her Life at Barnstable but acquitted of the Murder she was then charg’d with; and was shrewdly suspected of stifling two of her own Children” [2].
